Autumn Escape - 5 Seaside Pleasures...

A blue sky, blustery weekend by the seaside is surely one of life's all time simple pleasures!? Here are 5 of our favourite ways to make the most of it...

1) Wrapping up warm in knitted layers, mittens and winter walking boots. Timberland do tall, cosy (& earth-conscious) winter boots, Barbour do 'north sea blue' & 'fisherman yellow 'wellies & I'm still wearing North Face snow (or sand) boots from 3 winter seasons ago! Fisherman Out Of Ireland has a great range of cosy knitwear, available at various stockists. If you're looking for knitted arm-warmers you can have them hand-made for you at Ink Boutique, Scotland or knit your own (see above image) here.

2) Filling a little flask of tea or coffee and sticking it in a backpack. Lifeventures stainless steel thermal mugs work brilliantly and they're not made of plastic. ;)
3) Crisp, coastal air & rosy cheeks! The Fife Coastal Path, between Elie, St Monans, Anstruther and Crail is our local stomping ground. It's a beautiful part of the country, the late afternoon light is amazing and there are cliff top perches, ideal for waiting to watch the sunset....

4) Stopping for fish & chips (or a white pudding supper). The award winning place to go in our area is Anstruther Fish Bar and if the queues are too long for your tastes, try one of the other high standard chip shops in the town - we're sure you won't be disappointed.

5) Finding a cosy coastal pub for a fire-side whisky in the afternoon. We enjoyed a couple of weekend pit-stops. The Ship Inn & The Station Buffet are both in Elie. The Ship Tavern in Anstruther is also a friendly, characterful place on the harbour.
